Exciting local artist Ran Adler is described as an assemblage artist, utilizing natural materials and other elements of nature to create sculptural compositions. In his practice of assemblage, Adler is always looking to create shadows that will speak to the gallery space. For this exhibition, appropriately titled In Praise of Shadows (borrowed from the Japanese writer Jun’ichiro Tanizaki’s 1933 essay on Japanese aesthetics), Adler is once again, as in most of his assemblages, pursuing the goal of creating shadows that, through the object and its shadow, leave interpretation to the viewer.
