Intro to Glass Fusing
Instructor: Petra Kaiser

November 1 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Glass fusing, also called kiln‐formed glass, offers an outlet for creativity for those who are artistically blessed, as well as those who are artistically challenged. As Petra always says, “Glass is difficult to mess up and nearly everything is possible in the craft of glass fusing.”

The class will be a hands‐on experience introducing students to fusing terminology, materials, tools, and equipment and using these methods to create original pieces. The costs of materials depend on the projects you are making. Small jewelry pieces require less glass than big bowls and plates. Working in glass can become costly, but Petra will show you how to use it economically; and your finished work will generally exceed the value of the material.

Supply list:
Supplies are purchased directly from the instructor. You will be provided with all the necessary tools and supplies to start class right away. The first tool/supply kit costs $98. Additional material costs will depend on the quantity purchased and the size of the projects you choose to do.

1-day workshop for beginners, $48 / $39 Annual Donors

Class meets at 900 Dunlop Road., To register, call 239-395-0900.

Petra Kaiser HeadshotPetra Kaiser is an internationally renowned artist and instructor in the art of kiln-formed glass. Since she added the art of glass fusing to her education in 1997, she has accumulated quite a list of accomplishments. As an author, she has published her innovative ideas in three books with Wardell Publication and numerous articles in various international glass magazines.

As an artist, Petra has developed a distinctive style – capturing the Florida sun, light, and water in sculptures, functional glassware, and wearable designs. As an art lover, Petra is always drawn to 3-D sculptures and abstract shapes. When she was first introduced to glass fusing, she found the shape-giving options rather limiting. So it seemed only natural that she and her husband, Wolfgang, “found” Kaiser-Lee-Board.

As a people lover, Petra always loved to teach – she even has a degree in it. In her professionally equipped “Fuse It Studio,” she experiments with cutting-edge techniques and designs and often enough comes up with yet another exciting fused and kiln-formed glass project to teach her students. Besides teaching all over the world, she is a regular at the Glass Craft and Bead Expo. At BIG ARTS, she has been teaching her popular glass-fusing workshops since 1999. Visit
