Wine & Paint Mixer
Instructor: Barbara Ellis

16x9 trivet

November 15 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Make a trivet set that looks like the Sanibel beaches. Students will make an acrtylic-pour trivet set, to take home that day with written instructions on how to finish after the paint has cured.

Class will begin with a demonstration explaining the process on tiles and photo paper. Students will see examples of finished trivets for inspiration.

We will divide the class into pairs to practice the technique on photo paper before creating on the tiles.  Barbara will bring the paint cart from table to table to provide personal assistance.

Supply list:

Students should bring an apron or painting smock and wear comfortable clothes. Bring an open box that can accommodate the wet-tile art pieces for transport home.

Supply fee:

$10 per student payable to instructor for the supplies provided

Barbara Ellis headshot. I graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, with a BA in art, specializing in cast-bronze sculpture. I’ve also studied painting both at university and under several professional artists. My medium of choice is acrylic paint, although I love working with oils and multi-media projects.

Until recently, my art has been primarily representational. I was inspired by nature, by the play of light on an object, and by my other passion, travel. Two periods of time living in Greece in the 1980s inspired a series of paintings of boats on beaches, as well as a series of cast-bronze sculptures based on Greek tragedies.

A member of The Center for the Arts in Bonita Springs, and Estero Art League. I show my art at both locations of Coco Art Gallery, Coconut Point in Estero and the Coastland Mall in Naples.

Within the last year, my art has shifted from primarily representational to also include abstract pieces. I see the former as the prose version of two-dimensional art and the latter as the poetic realization of the medium. I'm inspired by dreams, colors, patterns, as well as travel and nature. One painting seems to lead directly to the next, frequently via dreams.
