CURRENTS transforms the Dunham Family Gallery into a collaborative underwater mural created by six artists over the course of almost 3 months. \nWorking together on a continuous 6-foot-tall by 125-foot-long expanse of paper throughout the gallery\, each artist contributes their own perspective while building upon one another’s work\, allowing the mural to gradually evolve into an immersive underwater environment. \nThroughout the process\, BIG ARTS will share artist schedules and photos on our social media so visitors can plan to stop in while artists are working or follow the mural’s progress. \n– \nFeatured Artists \nShah HadjebiAn award-winning Southwest Florida watercolor artist based in Fort Myers\, Hadjebi draws inspiration from a lifelong artistic background and explores nature through expressive\, intuitive painting. WEBSITE \nDahye KimAn interdisciplinary researcher and professor of Digital Arts at Florida SouthWestern State College\, Kim previously presented a projected installation at the BIG ARTS Dunham Family Gallery in 2024. Whether you are a seasoned fuser or a complete beginner\, this class guides you through the process of designing\, firing\, and finishing stunning glass pendants that capture light and color. All levels welcome \nSupplies are purchased directly from the instructor: material costs will depend on the quantity of glass used and projects you choose to create.  Each student invoice tracks all glass purchases to be paid to the instructor at the end of the session. \nWorkshop Experience \nDay 1: Design & Foundation (10:00 AM – 12:30 PM) We begin with the fundamentals of glass preparation. You will learn how to select and layer glass to create depth and interest\, completing your first one or two pendants to be loaded into the kiln for their first firing. \nDay 2: Expansion & Refinement (10:00 AM – 12:30 PM) Build on your skills as we design additional pieces. Sneeden founded his Fort Myers based multimedia company in 1991. The firm produces high impact videos and multimedia presentations for diverse national clients showing proven expertise in high-end presentation services with an emphasis on visual storytelling. In 2016\, Ken brought his professional skills to the islands. It will be a hands‐on learning experience offering an outlet for creativity for those who are artistically blessed\, as well as those who are artistically challenged. \nPetra will provide students with guidance and assistance\, demonstrating procedures and basic glass fusing techniques. She will include compatibility and testing\, annealing\, and slumping. Art glass\, frit\, stringers\, and high-fire paints will be used to produce tiles\, dishes\, jewelry\, bowls\, clocks\, and more. The advanced kiln-forming techniques take fusing to another level. Mold making\, pattern bars\, combing\, and casting will be some of the techniques explored. \nThe costs of materials vary depending on the projects you create.Beginners will purchase their kits on the first day of class. The Beginning Student Kit is $125 and includes all the necessary tools and supplies you will need for your first project. \nSupplies are purchased directly from the instructor.Additional material costs will depend on the quantity of glass purchased and the size of the projects you choose to create. Glass purchases are measured by length & width.
