The elements of design and composition will be discussed\, and several collages will be developed\, with the end result a collage to be used for a painting. On day 2 you will receive a printed sketch of your collage\, to create an abstract watercolor painting. At the end of the day\, each student will decide which collage they wish to use in order to create a painting\, I will take photos of each one and return with a line drawing on day two\, so the student can paint from the line drawing to create a painting. \nOn the second day I will demonstrate how to paint from a photo of your collage\, taking you step-by-step through the process\, with individualized instruction. Each day of class\, students should come with all materials used to create their collage and to paint in watercolor. I will have plenty of extra paper for collage\, glue sticks and mat medium. \nCancellation deadline: 12/28/2026Call the box office to register: 239-395-0900 \n \n printable pdf\n \n \n supply list\n \n \n instructor bio\n \nBIG ARTS Master Artist Cancellation Policy:We offer a variety of workshops taught by nationally and internationally recognized master artists. SUMMARY:PAINTING PALMS IN OIL
DESCRIPTION:Monday & Tuesday January 25\, 26\, 2027from 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM2-day workshop fee: $423 / $345 annual donors \nThis new workshop will cover the basic principles of oil painting with regard to painting palms. It will include interesting and memorable discussions on composition\, massing\, building form\, light and shadow\, depending on your own style\, and knowing when a work is finished (learning how to not overwork your painting). Douglas delivers sound principles of painting that are incredible foundations for your painting\, whether a beginner or seasoned professional. \nAfter the brief morning intro\, a very hands-on approach to the class gets students mixing colors and preparing to paint. Students will work in their own style/technique so that the finished work is their own. Douglas will overview his palette and concepts that his work entails. Students will mix paints and learn to mix basic strings of color to help comprehend how this preparation makes the painting process a little simpler and get a working under-standing of the value/strings of color. Students will work from wonderful photos of palms that Douglas provides. This incredible hands-on painting experience will yield a palm or two through a logical thought process in a fun-yet-focused atmosphere to help you guide your future study. Your painting can be as complicated or as simple as needed. Demos and individual discussions/instruction will help each student start to begin. \nCancellation deadline: 01/18/27To register call the box office: 239-395-0900 \n \n printable pdf\n \n \n supply list\n \n \n instructor bio\n \nBIG ARTS Master Artist Cancellation Policy:We offer a variety of workshops taught by nationally and internationally recognized master artists.
