TOPIC DISCRIPTION: Arts enrich our lives, broaden our perspectives and spark joy. The arts also create economic impact.
A prime example sits just across Alligator Alley. In the 20 years since Art Basel launched its annual Miami Beach fair, Miami’s nascent art scene has blossomed into a world cultural capital. This transformation has helped boost real estate values and establish Miami-Dade as a center for wealthy first and second-home buyers from around the globe, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Miami Art Week is now the December nexus for the global art market, creating more art sales than any other single week on the calendar.
Miami Herald veteran Jane Wooldridge has covered it all. She’ll explore the genesis of Art Basel’s Miami Beach fair, its impact on Miami-Dade, the inner workings of the fair and the art market it influences, and how you can engage with the Miami art scene – even if you’re not a billionaire.
