Learn the fundamentals of drawing as Mary demonstrates and guides students through this 4-week class.
Week 1: Tonal Drawing, Students will learn how to draw and tone an image working from still life objects supplied by the instructor. Learning how to make objects appear three dimensionally on a two-dimensional surface. Students will learn freehand drawing and drawing using a grid. Focus will be on examining the effects of light on objects, specifically how light defines form. Instructions will stress value and how transitions in value give an illusion of depth when drawing objects. Works will be in black and white, not color, as it is easier to judge values in shades of gray.
Week 2: Figure drawing with a live model and will cover drawing basics and discuss light, shadow, proportion, and anatomy. There will be a $15 model fee per student payable to the instructor on the day of class.
Week 3: Portrait drawing from a photograph. Will include learning perspective, foreshortening, proportion, contour, lighting, composition, and negative space. Each student brings in a photo to work from.
Week 4: Figure drawing with a live model and will cover drawing basics and discuss light, shadow, proportion, and anatomy. There will be a $15 model fee per student payable to the instructor on the day of class.
