March 13, 2025 @ 9:30 am - March 27, 2025 @ 12:30 pm
Thursdays, March 13, 20 & 27, 2025 from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM 3-week class fee: $245 / $196 annual donors
Students will learn how to draw and tone an image to make objects appear 3 dimensional on a 2-dimensional surface. Students will learn freehand drawing and drawing using a grid. Focus will be on examining the effects of light on objects, specifically how light defines form. Instruction will stress value and how transitions in value give an illusion of depth when drawing objects.
Topics will include perspective, foreshortening, proportion, contour, lighting, composition, and negative space. Works will be in black and white, not color, as it is easier to judge values in shades of gray.
In some projects, students will work from still life objects supplied by the instructor; in others, they will work from a black-and-white photograph they supply. Student photographs can be a portrait, landscape, or still life.
The class will meet at 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.
