Wednesday & Thursday, February 19 & 20, 2025, from 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
2-day workshop fee: $245 / $196 annual donors
Supply fee: $10 per students payable to instructor for all supplies provided.
As a fine art medium, colored pencil is versatile, inexpensive, and easy to master. Whether you are new to colored pencils or experienced with them, you will discover techniques for effective results. Working with specialty erasers and household items, you will learn how to smooth and blend color and to create convincing textures rapidly. You will then apply these techniques to a provided project or choose one of your own. As you work, you’ll learn details to look for, what to bring out or minimize, and shortcuts to finish more quickly.
Discussion will include characteristics of various pencil brands, color choices, and mixing tips. Supplies provided include a 9×12″ pad of Stonehenge paper, assorted sample papers, erasers and surprise tools, outline and color reference images for exercises and practice projects. Pencil sets will be available for use in class for those who do not bring their own.
The first morning will include a series of exercises to familiarize you with tools and techniques, as well as a discussion of pencil and paper types. In the afternoon, you will work on projects provided in your kit. On the second day, you may continue the same projects or choose from available references and outlines or bring your own. There will be mini demonstrations as needed, depending on class interests (three-color palette, skin tones, foliage, backgrounds, miniature art, etc.). There will be plenty of individual attention and frequent group demonstrations.
The class will meet at 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.
