Mindful Making is a process-based art class focused on self-expression, reflection, and personal meaning. Rather than emphasizing technical skills or finished products, this class invites stu-dents to explore the why behind their creative choices.
In 2025, artists Shah Hadjebi, Marti Koehler, MariaPia Malerba, and Wilson McCray worked on a collaborative drawing inspired by Sanibel’s designation as a sanctuary island.

During this 6-week course, beginning students will learn the basics of throwing clay on the pottery wheel, learning how to wedge, center, and start on a path to making many different shapes.

If you’re comfortable with the basics of throwing and eager to learn more advanced techniques, this class is for you! Students will explore methods for creating larger forms and lidded pieces and incorporating sculptural and surface techniques.
